About the position of Special Servicing and Recovery Specialist:

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in mortgage recovery, litigation, and arrears management, ready to take on challenging and rewarding cases.

Responsibilities for the role of Special Servicing and Recovery Specialist:

  • Manage a portfolio of high-risk and complex mortgage accounts, overseeing arrears, litigation, repossession, and shortfall recovery from start to finish.
  • Contact customers in late arrears and pre-litigation to resolve overdue balances, fees, and charges, providing support to vulnerable clients where needed.
  • Initiate and manage legal proceedings, including County Court Judgments (CCJs), Possession Orders, and Charging Orders, ensuring compliance and best practice.
  • Liaise with solicitors, asset managers, debt recovery agents, and other external partners to drive efficient and effective recovery outcomes.
  • Lead post-repossession processes, including property sale oversight, accurate shortfall calculation, and fair recovery strategies.
  • Ensure all recovery activities comply with FCA regulations, MCOB, the Consumer Credit Act, and internal governance standards.
  • Advise on high-risk or complex cases and act as an escalation point, contributing to litigation strategy and risk management.
  • Support continuous improvement by contributing to internal policy development and process enhancement initiatives.

Experience and skills required for the role of Special Servicing and Recovery Specialist:

  • Mortgage arrears management, including recovery, litigation, and shortfall management.
  • Strong knowledge of FCA guidelines (especially MCOB) and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, including support for vulnerable customers.
  • Experience managing full lifecycle cases, from arrears to legal escalation and post-possession shortfalls.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with solicitors, courts, and external agents.
  • Strong understanding of UK mortgage possession and debt recovery regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and communication skills, including drafting legal instructions and case summaries.
  • Attention to detail and strong financial acumen.
