About the role of Banking Payments Specialist

Joining a growing Challenger Bank, the Payments Specialist will require a detailed, hands-on understanding of payments and payment related tasks, with a requirement to work efficiently and effectively in a fast paste environment. You will work closely with the Team Lead and with your colleagues to ensure attention to detail and mistakes are minimised to ensure the smooth operation and management of daily tasks. You will also be required to support the development of processes, procedures and control frameworks to build an efficient, effective and compliant operation.

Responsibilities for the position of Banking Payments Specialist

  • Be part of a growing back-office team in day-to-day operations
  • Working closely with Reconciliations team to locate and balance unmatched items
  • Speak to 3rd parties to resolve external issues
  • Working and prioritising the payments inboxes
  • Define key payment processes and document procedures to ensure processes are updated accordingly
  • Proactively act on feedback to help to build a better bank for customers
  • Solving problems and troubleshooting issues on behalf of the customer
  • Work daily payment workflows and ensure that customer fulfilment is completed with efficiency and due diligence within the agreed SLA
  • Working closely with the Complaints team in resolving outstanding investigations in relation to payments complaints
  • Be accountable for your own development
  • Ensure that you comply with internal controls and external regulations
  • Providing SME payment support to not only Customer Service but other internal teams and departments

Experience required for the position of Banking Payments Specialist

  • Proven experience of at least 2 years working in a payment’s specialist role within a Fintech/banking environment
  • Strong experience in payment processing and troubleshooting errors
  • Have a good understanding of payment schemes
  • Bankline knowledge would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of reconciliations
  • Knowledge of Savings products and the FSCS
  • Having the ability to work towards targets and deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong numerical/reconciliation skills
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
  • Having a proven ability to adapt to a fast paced and continually changing environment
