Job Title: Assistant Financial Controller

Location: Hybrid 1 day a week in Brentwood, Essex.

Salary: Up to £60,000 plus bonus

Working hours: Monday to Friday 9 am-5:30 pm.

About the position of Assistant Financial Controller

Reporting directly to the FC, you will support the Director of Finance and Strategy in managing the Group’s internal and external reporting, including preparation of management accounts, statutory accounts, funding and regulatory returns, treasury, audit, and tax requirements.

You will play a significant role in the financial planning and analysis process, including budgeting/re-forecasting, variance analysis, and investment appraisal. Additionally, you will assist the FC/DOFAS in the effective running and operation of the Finance Department, providing cover for the FC where appropriate.

Responsibilities required for the role of Assistant Financial Controller

  • Assist in preparing internal management accounts, Board and Committee reports, funder and regulatory returns, statutory accounts, and tax returns.
  • Support month-end closing, including reconciliations and journal processing.
  • Help prepare and present the annual Budget and Re forecasts.
  • Analyse variances to Budget/re-forecast and prior year.
  • Assist in investment appraisal and due diligence for new opportunities.
  • Audit, Tax, and Accounting
  • Support the year-end audit and liaise with external auditors.
  • Prepare corporate tax returns, iXBRL, VAT, and CT61.
  • Provide technical guidance on accounting matters and updates.
  • Oversee cash management and covenant compliance.
  • Monitor funders’ eligibility requirements.
  • Assist with refinancing funding lines.
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks and projects as required.

Experience required for the position of Assistant Financial Controller

  • Qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA with 1-2 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Strong knowledge of FRS 102.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial modelling.
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Self-starter able to work under pressure.
  • Experience with external audits (ideally).
  • Financial Services experience (ideally).
